Moriyuki OchiaiWe established his own studio, Moriyuki Ochiai Architects that is active in architectural, interior, furniture, landscape and industrial design.
The sources of our inspirations come from being captivated by the vivacious and lively beauty of nature or life. We can also feel the influence coming from the delicate sensitivity responding to the unique Japanese nature, which can be found in Japanese temples and gardens. We wish to continue creating works that fulfill people's dreams, become the energy for their lives, and then move on to a deeper dimension that exceeds life itself. ◯Award( Firm) -2017 ・A' Design Award 2017 Silver Winner ( Italy ) ・A' Design Award 2017 Winner ( Italy ) ・Archdaily Building of the Year 2017 nominee ( USA ) -2016 ・A' Design Award 2016 Silver Winner ( Italy ) ・SBID(Society of British Interior Design) International Design Award 2015 finalist / Retail Design ( UK ) -2015 ・INTERIOR DESIGN Best of Year Awards 2015 " Best of Year / Grand Prix " category-Counter Service ( INTERIOR DESIGN magazine_USA ) ・Restaurant & Bar Design Award 2015 1st PRIZE / Decorative lighting (UK) ・SBID(Society of British Interior Design) International Design Award 2015 finalist / Restaurant&Bar ( UK ) ・German Design Award 2015 Special mention( German design council ) Excellent Communications Design - Interior Design ・German Design Award 2015 Nominee( German design council ) Excellent Communications Design - Interior Design -2014 ・Restaurant & Bar Design Awards (UK) Best Works / Decorative lighting ・INTERIOR DESIGN Best of Year Awards 2014 Honoree / category-Food retail ( INTERIOR DESIGN magazine_USA ) ・A' Design Award Winner ( Italy ) -2013 ・INTERIOR DESIGN Best of Year Awards 2013 " Best of Year / Grand Prix " category-Food retail ( INTERIOR DESIGN magazine_USA ) ・Red Dot Design Award 2013 ( Germany ) ・LEAF International Interior Design Award 2013 Commercial Building of the Year shortlist ( Germany ) ・German Design Award 2013 nominee( German design council ) category-architecture/interior ・German Design Award 2013 nominee ( German design council ) category-exhibition design ・Modern Decoration International Media Award 2013 " Annual Restaurant & Bar Space Award "( Modern Decoration magazine_ China ) ・JCD ( Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association) Design Award 2013 Selected Award ・Japan Sign Design Association Award 2013 Selected Award -2012 ・iF Communication Design Award 2012 " GOLD AWARD " ( Germany ) category-architecture/interior ・iF Communication Design Award 2012 ( Germany ) category-exhibition/trade fair ・SBID ( Society of British Interior Design ) International Design Award2012 " Best Commercial Space / 1st prize " ( UK ) ・Red Dot Design Award ( Germany ) ・International Architecture Awards 2012 Shortlist ( USA ) ・JCD ( Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association) Design Award 2012 Selected Award -2011 ・INTERIOR DESIGN Best of Year Awards 2011 " Best of Year / Grand Prix " category-Beauty/Spa ( INTERIOR DESIGN magazine_USA ) ・Modern Decoration International Media Award " Annual Commercial Space Design Award / 1st prize "( Modern Decoration magazine_ China ) ・Contractworld.Award 2011 Shortlist New Generation ( AIT_Germany ) ・Japan Display Design Association Award 2011 Selected Award / category-salon ・Japan Display Design Association Award 2011 Selected Award / category-shop ・Japan Sign Design Association Award 2011 Selected Award -2010 ・Design for Asia Awards 2010 Merit Award ( HongKong Design Center ) ・Japan Kids Design Association Award 2010 ・JCD ( Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association) Design Award 2010 Selected Award ・Japan Display Design Association Award 2010 Selected Award ・Japan Sign Design Association Award 2010 Selected Award -2009 ・Japan Sign Design Association Award 2009 Selected Award DREAM DAIRY FARM STORE interior design by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects A store selling dairy products and belonging to a company which runs its own dairy farm. The space is composed of a luminous body evoking the imagery associated with milk, an important merit and key ingredient of their products, a color gradation suggestive of green forests, dynamic modeled aluminum objects diversifying one’s experience of the space’s depth and expanse, and fixtures with organic curves expressing vitality. The space sends a perspicuous image as a store seeking to make high quality products from dairy farm milk, which is at the base of all their products. DREAM DAIRY FARM RESTAURANT Restaurant by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects The following interior design was realized for a restaurant built on a farm surrounded by a lush forest. The three dimensional white lattice nesting above the beams of the existing wooden structure forms the canopy of a forest that brings together the old and the contemporary by suggesting the superimposition of time and space. By superimposing time and space and bridging the old and the new, the repeated entwinement of lattice and light offers a mystic illumination and the spatial experience of penetrating into a deep forest. LHM kindergarten kindergarten / nursery school by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects We designed a playful and exciting interior of kindergarten. We experimented with a landscape design populated with lakes, hills and mountains that would inspire children a variety of uses and fun ways to play by stimulating their imagination. Here, the scenery and relief associated with nature is echoed throughout the space by a cleverly designed stage resembling a hill, furniture representing small mountains, caves or cabins and mirrors reminiscent of the surface of a body of water, while the color gradations of the walls feature a palette evoking the beauty of nature. Waterscape / Memory of Spring museum + multi-purpose space by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects The following renovation project aimed to transform a botanical garden located near Lake Ashi in the Hakone area, into a museum/a multi-purpose space . we poured new concrete over the entire floor and created an octagonal amphitheater at the center of the entrance dome where the banyan tree used to be. A transparent resin was then spread at the bottom of the amphitheater floor to form a spring that honors the profound serenity and mystery surrounding water by acknowledging the memory of the botanical garden's naturally occurring body of water, as well as the Hakone landmark that is Lake Ashi SEI-AN Stargazing Tea Rooms Tea Ceremony House by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects - Constellation of Stargazing Tea Rooms - Moriyuki Ochiai Architects designed a cluster of tea rooms offering a view of the surrounding scenery and the starlit sky as an "tea house connecting people to the stars and nature" located in the town of Bisei, Okayama Prefecture, known as a sanctuary for stargazing. By merging together this newly formed belt of tea rooms with the idyllic hills, mountains and starry skies of Bisei, Their design team sought to realize a tea house that reshapes the town's panorama. Crystalscape Beauty Salon by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects Moriyuki Ochiai Architects performed the design for a beauty salon. They endeavored to create a space that would envelop the body in such radiance by making the entire ceiling into a luminous crystal symbolizing the ideal of resplendent hair.Metallic waves, representing the bright, aerial, gracious way in which hair flows, are intricately weaved into a white matrix of geometric patterns. They sought to honor the beauty of hair and replicate the spatial experience of penetrating into its mysterious radiance and profound depth through the repeated entwinement of layers of lattice and metal. Aluminum Flower Garden Restaurant by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects A restaurant/bar named FLOWER around the theme of flower. A sheet of aluminum spreads across the ceiling. Changes to the size and density of the flower petals impart the function and atmosphere suited to each area, such as lively and quiet areas created through minute differences in the height and expanse of a given space. One’s position and angle of vision as well as the reflection of images and lights from the mirrors on the walls concur to perpetually redefine the appearance of the whole space, thus enabling the viewer to experience space with transient and diverse atmospheres. Daruma International Nursery by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects Moriyuki Ochiai Architects performed the design for a nursery school. Deliverables included an environment suitable to the school's educational policy, namely, bringing up children both physically and mentally that can think, learn and act on their own initiative. Thus, They set out to create a space that would promote a variety of uses and encourage children to come up with their own games as they would do in nature by recreating geographical features inspired by nature’s most beautiful assets; its colors and lakes. Geosong Residential Building by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects They performed the design for a residential building located in a hilly area. Thus, they set out to integrate into their design the structure of the earth while echoing the natural forces shaping the hills, strata-soil, and spring water found therein. Resonating with the landscape of rolling hills, this residential building channels and gives form to the natural energy embedded in the multiple layers of intertwined strata and springs surrounding it. Strata Springscape Beauty Salon by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects The Strata Springscape beauty salon is surrounded by a world of strata and springs. The entire space is embedded with elements inspired by strata, soil, springs, and water streams. Fragments of strata and spring motifs can be seen dancing on the ceiling next to floating fountain-like mirrors. The walls are finished with blue gradations that resemble water streams reflected in a fountain, and with a texture evocative of stone gravel in a geological formation. This creates an environment full of diverse rhythms of shadows and reflections, thereby magnifying the joy of those who pass through it. |
