Athanasia Leivaditou- Studio NL

Studio NL is an architectural and design studio based in Athens/ Greece. It was founded in 2009 by Athanasia Leivaditou after obtaining her master’s degree in Advanced Architectural Design in Columbia University of New York. Even if it is a newly established design studio, it has carried out a variety of projects, from building complexes and competitions to product design, using contemporary forms, materials and technologies. The main field of interest is the reinvention of the ordinary, the intriguing manipulation of what already exists. Form and function are in a continuous dialogue in order to forge new emerging relationships between the space/ product and its user. New living patterns constitute the context from which the morphosis of new environments arises. Working in this framework, Athanasia Leivaditou has participated in international competitions, such as A’ Design Award and SBID, and has been awarded prizes and distinctions while many of her projects have been published in print and electronic media.
DESK CONVERTIBLE TO BED by Athanasia Leivaditou

1,6 S.M. OF LIFE DESK CONVERTIBLE TO BED by Athanasia Leivaditou The main concept was to comment on the fact that our lives are shrinking in order to fit into the confined space of our office. Eventually, I realised that each civilisation may have a very different perception of things depending on its social context. For example, this desk could be used for a siesta or for a few hours of sleep at night on those days when someone struggles to meet deadlines. The project was named after the dimensions of the prototype (2,00 meters long and 0,80 meter wide =1,6 s.m.) and the fact that work keeps taking up more and more space in our life.

OFFICE by Athanasia Leivaditou

STUDIO NL CONTROLLED CHAOS OFFICE by Athanasia Leivaditou Taking advantage of the structural and formalistic qualities of the plasterboard, a white net unfolds into a grey background. The white lines are formed so as to serve the different functions of the interior (library, lighting, cd storage, shelving and desks). This concept derives from a holistic design philosophy and also there are influences from chaos theory.

Raincoat by Athanasia Leivaditou

UMBRELLA COAT Raincoat by Athanasia Leivaditou This raincoat is a combination of a rain coat, an umbrella and waterproof trousers. Depending on the weather conditions and the amount of rain it can be adjusted to different levels of protection. His unique feature is that it combines raincoat and umbrella in one item. With the “umbrella raincoat” your hands are free. Also, it can be perfect for sport activities like riding a bicycle. In addition in a crowded street you do not bump into other umbrellas as the umbrella-hood extends above your shoulders.

Table with adjustable tabletop by Athanasia Leivaditou

Dining table and beyond Table with adjustable tabletop by Athanasia Leivaditou This table has the ability to adjust its surface to different shapes, materials, textures and colors. Contrary to a conventional table, whose tabletop serves as a fixed surface for the serving accessories (plates, serving platters, etc.), this table’s components act as both the surface and the serving accessories. These accessories can be composed in different shaped and sized components depending on the required dining needs. This unique and innovative design transforms a traditional dining table into a dynamic centerpiece through its continual rearrangement of curved accessories.

Renovation by Athanasia Leivaditou

Apartment in Athens Renovation by Athanasia Leivaditou This ground floor apartment, nestled behind a mature lush garden, was completely gutted and transformed into this modern environment. Measuring 85s.m., the apartment features contemporary architectural elements, the use of natural materials (such as travertine and wood), a bold grey paint contrasted with white, softened by natural light and highlighted with concealed and exposed LED lighting, plus some industrially inspired design elements. The centerpiece to the home is made up of a curved kitchen ceiling that begins behind the wall cabinet and ends as a bookcase.
